Owners of the Sony Xperia Z smartphone can finally upgrade their devices to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS manually in case the OTA or Sony PC Companion didn't work. The Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware was officially released by Sony designed for Xperia Z.

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

Sony released an official Android 4.2.2 update for Xperia Z and dubbed it as 10.3.1A.1.10 firmware build which includes the following:

- Lock screen widgets

- Android Daydream feature

- Actionable notifications

- Extended quick settings

- My Xperia application

- New customisable navigation bar with quick settings

- New widget functionalities on both lock screen and home screen

- Bigger microSD card support of up to 64 GB

Warning: Manually upgrading your device may damage it depending on your expertise. Make sure that you read, follow and understand the procedure before manually updating the Xperia Z. Do this at your own risk.

Requirements:

Before you update your Xperia Z, make sure that you fulfil all the requirements needed:

- Create a backup of all your personal information, settings and data files.

- Make sure that the battery level must be at least 50 percent.

- Enable the USB debugging mode. Go to "Settings > Developer options > Enable developer options > USB debugging."

- Disable the MTP mode on the device. Go to "Settings > Xperia > Connectivity > USB connection mode > Choose MSC."

- Download the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean packages: Part 1 and Part 2 to your computer.

- Download the Flashtool to your computer.

Flashing Instructions:

1. Install the Flashtool app which you have downloaded earlier to your computer.

2. Connect your Sony Xperia Z to your computer using a USB cable.

3. Copy the downloaded "ftf" from the official firmware file to the Flashtool folder -
"C:flashtoolfirmwares" folder on your computer.

4. In the flashtool kit, click the "lightning icon," select on "flashmode" and then press "ok."

5. Look for the ".ftf" on the flashtool folder and select the same.

6. Now select the "flash" button to begin updating your device. Be patient since the update will take several minutes.

7. Once the installation has been completed, disconnect the handset from the computer and then reboot it.

Congratulations! Your Sony Xperia Z is now updated and running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. If you want to confirm the Android version, go to "Settings > About phone > Android & Baseband versions. This manual update does not require rooting your device and may remove root access once installed.
