If your LG Nexus 4 is running the Android 4.4.3 KitKat with build number KTU84L, you can now root the device then install the ClockworkMod recovery which allows installation of customised ROMs.

From the compilation of Team Android, here are the steps you need to do in order to gain root access and install the popular ClockworkMod custom recovery on your Android 4.4.3 KitKat running LG Nexus 4.

Prerequisites:

1. Make sure your LG Nexus 4 is running the Android 4.4.3 KitKat build version KTU84L.

2. Manually backup of all data files and settings stored on your Nexus 4.

3. Battery level must be at least 70 per cent to avoid power interruption.

4. Enable USB debugging mode on your device then download the necessary USB drivers on your computer.

5. The boot loader should be unlocked to gain root access.

6. Download and install the Android SDK on your computer.

7. Download the Fastboot tools on your computer then extract its contents to the "android-sdk-windows/platform-tools" directory according to your machine.

8. Setup the ADB and Fastboot with Android SDK on your computer.

9. Download the SuperSu version 1.99 and the ClockworkMod version 6.0.4.7 on your computer.

Rooting Procedure:

1. Connect your LG Nexus 4 to the computer using a USB cable.

2. Copy and paste the SuperSu zip file to the internal storage of your smartphone.

3. Switch off your LG Nexus 4.

4. Transfer the files of ClockworkMod custom recovery to the "android-sdk-windows/platform-tools" directory.

5. Reboot your smartphone to Boot loader mode by pressing and holding Volume Down and Power keys at the same time.

6. Go to the "android-sdk-windows/platform-tools" directory and open a Command Window. Press the Shift key on the keyboard then right-click inside the folder to open the Command Window.

7. Type in the following commands in the Command Window then press the Enter key:

a. "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-mako.img" (exclude the quotation marks).

8. After the installation, select Recovery mode inside the Boot loader mode.

9. Select "install/flash from zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > select the SuperSU zip file > confirm installation."

10. Go back to the main menu, select "reboot system now." It may take at least five minutes for the smartphone to reach the home screen.

11. Now check if the device has been rooted, download the Root Checker app from the Play Store and then go to the App Menu to see the SuperSU application.
