Much like the battle in the mobile phone space that resulted in three companies - Nokia (NOK), Motorola (GOOG) and one time mobile phone vendor Ericsson (ERIC) - controlling the industry, the smartphone market is now consolidating around its top players. That means market share loss and margin pressure for others.

Over the last few quarters, the top two smartphone vendors have been Samsung and Apple (AAPL), both of which took the major share in 2Q 2012, according to IDC. That land grab is likely to accelerate even further in the second half of 2012 given the introduction of new models including Apple's iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy smartphones.

In an attempt to battle the two smartphone titans Samsung and Galaxy units, HTC launched the HTC One Series which focuses on the elements of entertainment and image capturing. For users who want an Android OS with maximized durability here are the choices outside Samsung and Galaxy models.

HTC One S

This boasts of a head-turning design on the thinnest phone yet. Its 4.3-inch display delivers a rich viewing experience because the camera captures every moment even in low light with crisp, vivid, beautiful photos. The HTC One S is equipped with Beats Audio which provides authentic, deep sound with true, finely-tuned details.

Its main feature includes 1080HD video and imaging and an 8MP camera. The HTC ImageChip ensures great shots regardless of lighting and movement. The Beats Audio gives rich sound from music, videos, games and even YouTube postings. The device is wrapped in metal unibody and its 4.3 inch screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass.

Specs include 1.7GHz dual core processor, Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4, 1GB RAM, and 16GB internal storage.

The HTC One S costs $805 depending on which carrier.

HTC One X

This model features lightning-fast web browsing, remarkable picture quality and seamless gaming visuals provided by its powerful quad-core processor. Its camera captures every moment and even in low light with crisp, vivid, beautiful photos and lets the owner take a photo while shooting HD video. Like the One S, it has Beats Audio to provide authentic, deep sound with true, finely-tuned details.

Its 4.7 inch screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and its minimalist design includes curved glass, a piano gloss sidewall, and an iconic camera ring on the back.

Specs include 1.5GHz quad core processor, Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4, 1GB RAM, and 32GB RAM.

The HTC One X costs about $940.

HTC One V

The HTC One V features a unique curved-chin design that makes it easy to hold, which makes it somewhat a distinctive accessory for the owner. Like all One series phones, it packs an impressive list of features including a best-in-class camera.

Main features include 720p HD video with a 5MP camera which starts-up in under a second and Beats Audio for music, videos, and gaming audio sources. Its 3.7-inch screen is wrapped in a durable metal unibody with a unique curved-chin design.

Specs include 1GHz processor, Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4, 512 RAM and 4GB total storage with microSD expansion slot.

The HTC One V costs about $333.

While the HTC One Series are more focused on durability, audio enhancement with Beats Audio, and image capture, even with the Android 4.0 OS, this HTC series doesn't have other extra applications or software unlike the smartphones made by the other manufacturers, which explains why HTC has higher chances that it could be the next casualty of the smartphone bloodbath.
