HTC M8 (HTC One 2) Specs, Price, Release Date, News And Rumors
While HTC hasn't announced its M8 smartphone (rumored as the One 2) release, everyone knows a successor to the HTC One is on the way. Here's a roundup of all the rumors and speculations about the new model that could be launched in February or March 2014.
The unibody aluminum construction of the HTC One handset has garnered universal praise. It was enough to rival the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5. It is logical for the company not to take it back and use polycarbonate for its successor. Based on some leaked photos, the design has round edges which could be a way to avoid the expensive zero gap injection method that built the unibody shell of the HTC One.
The HTC One was one of the first smartphones that made a jump to a 1080p display, with Sony Xperia Z and the Samsung Galaxy S4. According to @evleaks, the HTC One 2 will have 4.7-inch display and most likely a Super LCD panel technology instead of OLED.
The HTC One 2 is now in the Wi-Fi Alliance certification database so the device is expected to support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The certificate proves that the smartphone is 802.11ac certified, a technology which manages to transfer by 300M bit/s. The HTC M8 will use a Qualcomm SnapDragon 800 system-on-chip (SoC) with a 2 GB memory storage.
HTC has also added a fingerprint sensor to its HTC One Max tablet after Apple iPhone 5S' TouchID so there's a good chance the One 2 could also have this technology. Based on the leaked photos, there could be a fingerprint reader about the camera sensor and flash.
The HTC One 2 release date was revealed after a patent dispute between HTC and Nokia early in December and it is likely to arrive in February or March 2014, during the first year anniversary of the HTC One. The users whose contracts are about to run in December or January might want to wait and see what HTC will offer in Spring.
When it went on sale, the HTC One was at 500 GBP without SIM and available at 40 GBP in a monthly contract. The prices quickly dropped though and we could expect the same price pattern for the HTC One 2.
