Struggling Taiwanese phone manufacturer HTC has taken the phablet market by storm. The smartphone maker is entering the phablet market by launching its latest plus sized version of its award-winning HTC One handset. Looks like gigantic displays are something buyers recognize as worth of having.

Photos of the device were leaked in the past weeks, but now the Taiwanese company has corroborated its existence with a listing on its website. The "One Max" has created quite a buzz with its gigantic display in the HTC family at 5.9 inch. The large screen packs a full-HD 1,920×1080-pixel resolution, which gives it a pixel-per-inch value of 373ppi.

"Max" has a lot to offer

Another new addition to the max model is the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. With its gigantic display, shouldn't be a problem at all. A mathematical representation of the fingerprint used for fingerprint sensor is stored on the phone in a secured location. Location is inaccessible to other apps or remote servers. However, HTC intends to eventually provide a way for other apps to use the ID system, without accessing the fingerprint data straight away. Besides using it to unlock phones, the One Max's fingerprint sensor lets the person use three different fingers to open apps. This should make it helpful for quickly getting to the favorite app, or even turning on the Ultra pixel camera.

HTC One Max comes in two variants, the 16 GB and the 32 GB with an expandable memory of up to 64 GB with a micro SD card. One knotty point is that HTC is using the Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon 600 processor instead of its advanced Snapdragon 800 one. It has a Quad-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 CPU with a 2 GB RAM and a powerful 3300mAh battery. Max has a camera that can capture better low-light shots than the normal smartphone camera, but pictures are of lower resolution, at 4 megapixels and weighs around 7.7 ounces. There is also one surprise; Beats logo is dropped. This might indicate an end to the partnership between the two companies. Instead of Beats Audio, it will now come with HTC BoomSound inbuilt for better sound quality.

The company has not announced the pricing for the region; however One Max will be available globally from mid to end October. There's no information on specific availability just yet for countries in Southeast Asia, but it looks like the phablet market will get new product available for buyers in Malaysia sometime in November.

HTC is down to a net loss of Tw$2.97bil (RM320.91mil) in the three months to September, compared with a net profit of Tw$3.9bil (RM421.4bil) last year. It made a net profit of Tw$1.25bil (RM135.27mil) in the second quarter.
