HTC One S: No More Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and Sense 5 Update, Owners Appeal to HTC in Making Updates Available
Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has officially confirmed that the HTC One S will no longer receive software updates such as Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and HTC Sense 5. The announcement obviously disappointed HTC One S owners since they will be stuck with the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and HTC Sense 4 update.
HTC released a press statement with the assurance that the HTC One S smartphone will still be valuable even without the availability of the latest software updates. The statement reads: "We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences."
Now, the disappointed HTC One S owners started to appeal to the Taiwanese company in resuming the issuance of the Android 4.2 and Sense 5 updates. The users have already filed their petition on Change.org.
Dylan Richards, creator of the petition, reminded that HTC has stated in Feb 28, 2013, that the upgrade to Android 4.2 and Sense 5 for the HTC One S was already on the way. Mr Richards further pointed out at the petition the dissimilarity on updating practices between HTC and rival company Samsung.
"Up until recently, I've been a happy HTC customer, having more problems with my network carrier than HTC. What I want to separate here is the quality of HTC's phones and the quality of its customer services. The HTC One S is still one of the best phones on the market, on par with the dual-core and quad-core Samsung Galaxy S III phones and HTC's own One X. With that being said, the HTC customer service and upgrade service are absolutely dreadful," the petition's mission statement reads.
Over 1,000 signatures have already been placed on the petition, but the filing requires 408 signatures more for the appeal to be officially submitted to HTC. The company has not yet commented on the appeal of the HTC One S owners.
Despite delivering the bad news to the HTC One S owners, HTC reportedly shared good news to the HTC One users. The latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS recently became available for the international version of the aluminum HTC One smartphone with the company, adding that they will grant updates as well to the HTC One X.
