With the polycarbonate unibody and Gorilla Glass screen of the HTC One X, the device has earned a reputation as a very durable unit, but its strength could be the gadget's weakness also as repair Web site had labeled it a unit that is impossible to fix.

Earlier durability tests made and posted on YouTube indicated that the device is really a survivor of drop tests on a tiled floor from a desk to simulate accidental drops that could happen to phone owners.

"Some people spend their whole lives looking for the one. We found a suitable candidate and decided to court it the only way we know how: piece by piece," PCMag quoted iFixit.

HTC One features a 4.7-inch full HD 1080p display with 468 ppi, 1.7-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and HTC Sense.

The iFixit team initially found it easy to lift by screen by applying some heat and using a suction cup. However, they could not find any hidden screw which left them with little alternative how to separate the rear and front covers.

They managed to finally open it but at the risk of causing permanent damage to the casing. The team found copper tapes and ribbon cables hiding the battery connector which could be unscrewed and removed and eventually were able to disassemble the display penal, daughterboard, cameras, dual-speaker, USB port and microphone.

Because of the tough time it caused the team, iFixit gave the HTC One X a repairability score of 1 out of 10. It is the first for a mobile phone.

Similar tests conducted on the BlackBerry Z10 and the Apple iPhone 5 also yielded a higher score for the BlackBerry devices in terms of repairability.

Shipment of HTC One, however, has been moved to April following delays in the delivery of phone parts, particularly the camera.

Given both the positive and negative sides of the device, Slashgear wrote that "this is a device that's set to either be a skyrocket-ready spaceship to the moon for HTC, or one of the biggest disappointments for the company in their history - it if doesn't sell, that is."
