HTC One X+ will get the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean but may not get the Android 4.4 KitKat, the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update or anything after Sense 5 or the Android 4.2 update. While nothing is set in stone yet, HTC already seems to hammer nails further into the coffin of HTC One X+ owners around the world.

HTC says that it doesn't have any future Sense or Android plans after the Android 4.2 update but it is quick to leave the door open by saying it will update the users if plans do, in fact, change. Unfortunately, this type of support is not unusual given that the HTC One X is already going 2 years old and HTC usually keeps devices updated only for 18 months before really stopping support. It has been the same with numerous HTC smartphones and even Google uses the same excuse with its Galaxy Nexus Android 4.4 KitKat update.

HTC One X owners should start tempering expectations and get used to having Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 for a long time. Those who are not content with this software may rely on the development community, instead of HTC, for assistance.

For users who want to try the Android 4.4 firmware, XDA developers have made Pure AOSP custom ROM available. Given below are the steps on how to update the HTC One X+ to Android 4.4 Kitkat firmware. The tutorial involves installing the new Pure AOSP custom ROM, which is a ported version of the Android 4.4 stock system. The custom ROM is similar to the OTA update that is currently rolling out to Nexus devices. By following the steps below, HTC One X+ users can flash a stock and pure KitKat firmware on their device without dealing with the HTC UI or HTC's pre-installed apps and features. This is not a stable software so be ready for some minor bugs. Stock firmware can be restored by rebooting into recovery mode anytime if users have made an Android backup before.
