Hugh Grant Will Not Be In The Next Bridget Jones Movie
Hugh Grant is no longer part of the Bridget Jones sequel movie. The British actor has officially exited voluntarily from the much talked about project due to his unhappiness over his character.
The actor who played Daniel Cleaver in the first two films confirmed the news with Free Radio in Midlands. "I decided not to do it," says Grant. "But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel."
The film has been in the process for many years, but came to an abrupt halt in 2012 when Grant complained that he is not happy with the script. The reports of Grant not being a part of the third installment of the movie had been floating around since, but was later refuted by a statement from his spokesman who reiterated the actor's enthusiasm to play the character once again.
The same had been confirmed last month as well when Co-chairman of Working Titles Films told Huffington Post that the complete crew of the movie including Grant, Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth will be reprising their roles.
Grant finally pulled the plug by opting out of the project. The Daily Mail reported that the actor is having difficulties in moulding the character for the next sequel. He had, admittedly, played a large part in developing the script for the second film 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason'.
The script is the brainchild of Helen Fielding, who has been actively involved in the development of the past scripts. She also took on a major role in the making of the next film, which is titled Bridget Jones's Baby, as told by Hollywood Reporter. The next film will be without the character of Daniel Cleaver, but will have Mark Darcy instead.
Mark Darcy will play a major role in the movie, which will explore more mature issues as Bridget has now turned 40 and is trying desperately for a baby. Both Colin Firth and Reene Zellweger have been signed up to play their respective characters.
Fans of Grant need not be disappointed as they can still catch him in another just-released flick called 'The Rewrite', in which he reunited with the director of Music and Lyrics. Watch the trailer below:
