Hugh Jackman the Next Aussie to be James Bond?
Hugh Jackman is not passing up an opportunity to play James Bond saying a previous offer for the role may now be acceptable to him if it ever comes again.
In an interview in London, where he is shooting Les Miserables, the "Real Steel" and "X-Men" star recalled his agent's question if he is interested to become the second Australian to act the role of super secret agent.
"At the time I wasn't. I was about to shoot X-Men 2 and Wolverine had become this thing in my life. But I think every male at some point thinks about playing Bond. So it was not right then but it may be right if it comes back. As an actor you've got to keep taking risks," said Jackman, according to the Sunday Express and Sydney Morning Herald.
Englishman Daniel Craig currently plays James Bond and he will shoot the 23rd Bond movie for release next year. Craig is the sixth actor to play the spy's role starting with the 2006 movie Casino Royale followed by Quantum of Solace in 2008.
George Lazenby, now 72, is the only Australian to play Bond doing it in 1969 in the film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service."
Lazenby was a 22-year-old model when producer Albert R. Broccoli picked him to replace the original Bond actor, Sean Connery. The actor from New South Wales will release his autobiography entitled "The Other Fella" next year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of James Bond movies.
