Hugh Jackman’s ‘The Wolverine’ Stays Strong as 'The Conjuring' Steps Up at the Australian Box Office, Why Aussies Want to See Hit Films
Australian actor, Hugh Jackman has continued to enjoy the confidence of Aussies Down Under as they prefer to watch his action flickThe Wolverine to other top box office hit films, including The Conjuring.
In its second week, The Wolverine has raked in an estimated $3.261 million over the weekend, allowing the film to keep its No. 1 spot at the box office. The Motion Pictures Distributors Association of Australia noted, however, that this is half of the film’s debut weekend. Despite this, Aussies still expressed support to the Les Miserables actor, named 2013 Most Liked Actor in Australia.
The Conjuring comes next to The Wolverine at the box office, stepping up from third place to second, outnumbering Sandra Bullock’s The Heat, which came down to the No. 3 spot.
The comedy film by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, The World End nabbed the fourth spot, as it reportedly brought home over one million dollars during its debut weekend. This was, according to The Age, a bit “disappointment” since the film’s stars even flew Down Under to make noises for the film one week ago.
Also leaping one notch up is Michael Douglas and Matt Damon’s Behind the Candelabra, which made it to top 6, while This is the End rounded off into fifth place. Completing the top ten at the box office over the weekend are Despicable Me 2 (Top7), Pacific Rim (Top 8) The Way, Way Back (Top ) and Man of Steel (Top 10).
