Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, a model and adult film actor, is believed to have killed a man he knew. Montreal Police told The Globe and Mail the act of murder and dismemberment was filmed and uploaded to a Web site that features images of gore and violence.
The body parts of Magnotta's alleged victim have reportedly been mailed to different places including the headquarters of Canada's Conservative Party.
A campaign manager for party leader Stephen Harper, Jenni Byrne, had witnessed the opening of the package containing one of the dismembered parts. Prior to this, a human torso was found near Magnotta's Montreal apartment building on Tuesday.
A human hand was also sent in a package addressed to the Liberal Party of Canada. Tests revealed the body parts belonged to the same man. Police have yet to recover the rest of the victim's body parts.
"We are still missing a few parts of the puzzle in terms of body parts, so yes, this is a special crime scene," Montreal police spokesman Commander Ian Lafrenière told reporters.
"For most of the officers that were there all night long, this is the kind of crime scene they've never seen in their career," Lafreniere added.
Magnotta is reportedly from Toronto, but intel reports indicate he may have flown to France after committing the murder.
The video was still available, "buried deep within the site" according to The Globe.
The National Post reported Magnotta's video, called "1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick" is not a first from the porn star. Magnotta had previously been suspected of having filmed and uploaded to YouTube the torture of kittens in 2010.
Magnotta reportedly had links to Karla Homolka, one of the most notorious killers in Canadian history, but this was never been confirmed.
Police hinted Magnotta's real identity may be unknown. He has reportedly used different aliases and names, noting that he was known as Eric Clinton Kirk Newman until he began using his current name in 2006.
