The director of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1," Francis Lawrence, spoke about the future of the franchise after the stories from the books end. Can the fans of the franchise expect more movies from the fantasy world of Panem? The director talks about the challenges the producers face for any future spin-off movies.

"The Hunger Games" movies are based on the book trilogy with the same name, written by Suzanne Collins. The director of the upcoming movie from the franchise spoke to EmpireOnline about the possibility of more movies from the franchise in the future, just as the movie "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" came as a spin-off from the popular "Harry Potter" movies.

Comparing the risks of a spinoff movie between the "Harry Potter" and the "The Hunger Games" franchise, the director said that both the worlds are rich with stories that can be told. But the central question to the movie producers may be whether the fans will like the spin-off movies without their favourite characters like Hermione Granger and Katniss Everdeen.

Katniss Everdeen's rebellion against the Capitol may have put an end to the games forever but the director feels that there are many past games that can feature in the spin-off movies but is not sure how the audience will react to movies without Katniss.

Another concern for "The Hunger Games" spinoff movie is the connection to real world events that are relevant today. The director said that one of the things he likes about the franchise is how the movies raise the issues that "we think about and talk about now." How this aspect can be added to the future movies will be a challenging question for the producers.

Francis Lawrence also spoke about how they managed to complete "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1" after the tragic death of one of the important cast members, Philip Seymour Hoffman. No computer graphics were reportedly used to complete the scenes in which the late actor was involved. Instead the producers are said to have decided to rewrite the scenes and give the role to other actors in the movie.
