‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’: Lorde Announced as Sole Curator for Soundtrack
Lorde is the “sole curator” of the upcoming “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” soundtrack, the Kiwi teen excitedly announced.
As the curator of the album, the Grammy Award-winning star will be handpicking the artists that will be featured.
The first song is naturally coming from her. She revealed that she has already written an original track for the album.
“i am so pleased and proud to have been announced the sole curator of the soundtrack for the next hunger games instalment, MOCKINGJAY – PART 1 (!!!)” she wrote on her Facebook.
“i also wrote the first single off the soundtrack. currently jumping up and down on my hotel room bed – i can’t wait to share more of this project with you. lots of love.” (all sic)
The film’s director, Francis Lawrence, has praised the 17-year-old songstress’ work, saying that she understands what the team wants for the film.
“I sat down with Lorde on the set of ‘Mockingjay’ this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we, as both fans and filmmakers, were trying to accomplish with the film,” the filmmaker said.
“Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack. I can't wait to share what she’s done with the fans – it is truly remarkable.”
For her part, Lorde promised that the soundtrack is “definitely going to surprise people.”
This isn’t the first time Lorde has been included in a “Hunger Games” soundtrack.
Her cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” was included in the soundtrack for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” stars Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
It will be released on November 21 in the U.S.
