The hunky men of G.I. Joe: Retaliation has slain the competition. In the box office, that is--and at the red carpet.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson joins the star-studded cast, and it proves to be an inspired decision as the film barreled to the top of the box-office during Easter weekend. G.I. Joe: Retaliation raked in a whopping $41.2 million in only three days, bringing the total four-day haul to an impressive $51.7 million.

While the opening figures didn't quite match the success of the first G.I. Joe film of the franchise (G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra in 2009), it was enough to put Retaliation at the top of the pack ahead of other big films such as Dreamworks' The Croods and Tyler Perry's Temptation.

The adrenaline-filled blockbuster was a big hit with the guys, drawing in a 61% male crowd. Johnson's casting, along with the return of Channing Tatum, is also a decision that the ladies should appreciate. Johnson takes the reins as the film's lead this time, and carries it with his trademark panache and attitude.

"I'm feeling the mojo," Johnson tells USA Today. "But the key is creating the platform that allows this Hollywood mojo to have longevity. Therefore, it's called the Hollywood 'mo-levity.' I just made up that word. My world, my rules."

Despite the success of Retaliation's earnings, the second film of the franchise is not a certified hit with the critics.

It only got an underwhelming 29% on Rotten Tomato's critics' Tomatometer, although the website's audience rated it 59%. Detroit News' Tom Long says the movie is a "No go" while MSN Movies' review was a bit more favorable saying, "When it comes to big and loud, this is the movie to beat for at least this week."
