IAG flood claims reach 2,400
An estimated 2,400 claims have been submitted to the Insurance Australia Group with more expected to be filed as rains continue to pour.
The company has already received 1,200 claims from damage caused by Cyclone Tasha in December with net claims to range from $10 million to $30 million.
IAG Managing Director and CEO, Mike Wilkins, said they have mobilized assessors and are focused on providing customers with the help they need during this particularly difficult time. The company handles insurance under its NRMA and CGU brands.
“Claims are being prioritized based on the severity of damage, and customers are encouraged to lodge their claims as quickly as possible,” Wilkins said. “Our priority is to assist both our customers and our people in Queensland.”
"Given the ongoing nature of this event, it remains too early to determine the likely claim cost, which will be included in the group's result for the second six months of this financial year," the company said in a statement.
So far, the overall natural peril claims for the six months to December 2010 is expected to amount to $120 million to $140 million
