"Vampire Diaries'" brooding Salvatore brother, Ian Somerhalder, is dead serious about getting the role of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Ian may have been a little subtle during his earlier interviews on getting the part. However, now the 33-year old actor has put up a Twitter Campaign to earn him the part of Christian Grey. Talk about being "absolutely interested" in becoming Christian Grey.

E.L. James' highly-acclaimed erotica novels, "Fifty Shades of Grey" Series are taking the world by storm. It has sold over 10 billion books worldwide and the number continues to increase by the minute. From ordinary individuals to A-list celebrities, the BDSM-filled pages have got everyone hooked.

Given that it was originally a "Twilight" fan fiction, most of the readers of James' novel were "Twi"-hard fans. So what exactly is the book about? "Fifty Shades" focuses on the lives of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey whose romance story is unlike any other. With helicopter rides to sex chambers, the books have an unexpected twist and turn at every page that promises a tight grip on readers.

It is no wonder why a lot of Hollywood celebrities have expressed intense interest in playing the lead roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. One celebrity that has even taken it up through a Twitter campaign is Ian Somerhalder.

Known for the role as the evil and brooding, Salvatore brother on "Vampire Diaries", Ian Somerhalder wishes to appeal for an even darker and edgier role as Grey in James' best-selling series. While Universal Studios has yet to release the final list of cast, that leaves Ian to his own devices. Somerhalder is running campaigns in attempt to bag the lead role. In fact, Ian has already teamed up with a well-known writer, Bret Easton Ellis, to help him get the iconic part.

"@BretEastonEllis -Id so love to be ChristianGrey w/you&Angelina Jolie. Ive only waited 10 years to do a movie w/u.Im grown up now-no worries," tweeted Ian Somerhalder to Writer, Bet Easton Ellis.

Bret Easton Ellis took no wasted time to tweet back Ian Somerhalder. By the looks of it, even Bret is interested in the film given that his film ventures of which had written a script for include "American Psycho" and "The Rules of Attraction".

"@iansomerhalder I'm glad you're as excited by the prospect of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' as I am. (I've heard that Angelina is not involved...)," tweeted Bret.

"Rereading Fifty Shades of Grey: it's hard for me to think of Ian Somerhalder as Christian G. because I've known him personally for so long," wrote Bret, adding, "I know Ian Somerhalder and how kinky he can be and yes, he's probably Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, and he will go all-out for it... I'll call Ian tomorrow for Fifty Shades of Grey".

So with the campaign on the line and a writer right behind, Ian Somerhalder's chances of getting the role might just work out in his favors. The big question is: How would the fans react when they each have their own Christian Grey protégés?
