On Wed. Jan 8, 2014, at 40^th Annual People's Choice Awards 2014, the former couple won Favorite Onscreen Chemistry honor for their "The Vampire Diaries" roles of Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore. Even though the couple ended their relationship earlier in the year 2013, they continued to sizzle onscreen. Their unmatchable chemistry and love of their fans got them an award for best onscreen romance. While receiving the award, the two stars did not only come together amicably onstage, but they also joked about their breakup and ended it with a giant kiss.

"We started dating in real life," said "The Vampire Diaries'" Ian Somerhalder while accepting the award at 40^th Annual People's Choice Awards (2014).

"And then we broke up in real life," added Nina Dobrev to Ian Somehalder's statement.

"And yet our characters are still dating on the show," continued Ian Somerhalder.

"It's a good thing it's not awkward!" joked Nina Dobrev onstage while pretending to be awkward with her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder.

"Well, it's a good thing we have chemistry!" said Nina Dobrev at the end and Ian Somerhalder planted a giant kiss on his ex-girlfriend's cheek.

In the end, Ian Somerhalder thanked audience, before exiting the stage.

The "TVD" couple beat Derek & Meredith of "Grey's Anatomy, Kurt & Blaine from "Glee," Castle & Beckett from "Castle" and Emma & Hook From "Once Upon A Time" to win this award.

The way "The Vampire Diaries" stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev joked together on the stage of 40^Th Annual People's Choice Awards, it showed that they still share a warm relationship.

The former couple got together, yet again in the moment of celebration. Nina Dobrev turned 25 on Jan. 9, 2014 and to the delight of their fans the duo came together.

Nina Dobrev celebrated her 25^th birthday with her ex Ian Somerhalder and her best friend Julianne Hough. Julianne Hough also happens to be the sister of her other ex boyfriend.

Besides, making Nina's day special with a cake, Julianne Hough and Ian Somerhalder showered lots of love and good wishes for her via Twitter.

Julianne Hough wrote on Twitter: "Happy Birthday my beautiful @ninadobrev you are kind, smart, adventurous, loving, honest, beautiful,..."
