The split of adorable couple Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev broke the hearts of "Vampire Diaries" fans. As they try to absorb that Ian and Nina's 3-year relationship crumbled, numerous reports rapidly emerged stating the reasons of the split ranging from career move to infidelity and commitment issues.

The 34-year-old heartthrob actor has always been a fan favorite as Christian Grey in the upcoming "Fifty Shades of Grey" film and he openly talked about his desire of portraying the famous character that could change his acting career. However, Nina Dobrev's adamant disapproval for Ian Somerhalder to be cast is reportedly what caused the conflict between the two.

Last month, the 24-year-old brunette beauty has been posting a series of "Quote of the Day" Twitter messages which led the fans to speculate on Ian's infidelity towards Nina.

The actress wrote on her Twitter account @ninadobrev the message that reads: "Quote of the day: Ask for forgiveness, not permission" and some fans indicated based on the message that Ian suggested they should go on a break instead of making the relationship work out.

Furthermore, other reports claim that the reason behind the split was Nina's commitment issues. Ian Somerhalder was reportedly ready to settle down but Nina Dobrev was not.

"He was starting to talk marriage and she is just getting started on her career," an unnamed source revealed to Life&Style Weekly.

Meanwhile, friends of the couple exposed that the break up was inevitable but Ian and Nina separated in good terms.

"There was no mean spiritedness behind of either of their motives. The relationship kind of brewed out of a friendship and the fact that they had to get into a romance for the show," the friend source shared to US Weekly.

Neither Ian Somerhadler nor Nina Dobrev has given their official statement yet about the split. Fans need not to worry because the "Vampire Diaries" stars will still continue working together on the successful TV show with some insiders maintaining that Ian and Nina will remain good-natured and professional on the set.
