"The Vampire Diaries" stars awarded their fans by accepting the award together at the People's Choice Awards. The two looked stunning together and even joked about their break up to their fans. The two started their acceptance speech for "Best Chemistry" with Ian saying:

"This is crazy. Can you believe this almost five years in the making?"

Then Nina says:

"And then we started dating on the show," which Nina says to the audience and "Then started dating in real life," said Ian. "Then we broke up in real life," butts in Nina.

"And yet our characters are still dating on the show," Somerhalder says with a face that makes the audience laugh and sigh with pleasure.

"It's a good thing it's not awkward," says Nina Dobrev and she and Somerhalder make awkward facial expressions.

Nina breaks the tension by saying:

"Well, it's a good thing we have chemistry!"

The two were just playing around and Ian Somerhalder gives his ex-girlfriend a huge kiss on the cheeks showing that the two really care about each other despite ending their three year romance. The reason behind their break up was said to be a disagreement on terms of settling down.

Somerhalder wanted to marry Nina Dobrev but the latter didn't feel like it was the right time to start a family and so they had decided to end their romance, but the two seem like very good friends. This must be the recipe to their awesome onscreen chemistry that won them their awards at the people's choice awards.

Ian Somerhalder afterwards look at Nina endearingly and they seem to be a happy couple onstage. It is quite rare to see people this happy even after breaking up especially in showbusiness. We wish them all the best and for "The Vampire Diaries" as well. Let's see how many more "chemistry" making moments they will be able give everyone.
