The end of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 is getting near and actor Ian Somerhalder, who portrays Damon Salvatore in the show, confirmed on social networking site Twitter that filming just wrapped up. The Carter Matt report revealed that filming wrapped up a little bit earlier for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 compared to Season 4 so the cast members will have more opportunity to do other things.

End-of-season-5 insanity... Just wrapped. Good night beautiful world- miss you. See you soon

With his work on the CW TV series wrapped up, Ian can now keep himself busy with his other projects before the production for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 kicks off. Ian's other projects could be attending conventions worldwide to meet and greet the fans, new movies or focusing on charity work particularly on his Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF).

Ian Somerhalder, who is known for always using social media sites in raising environmental and animal issues, recently shared an Instagram video slamming Delta Airlines, the partner of Air France. According to the Ecorazzi report, the airline still flies animals that will be used as lab test subjects.

"They are put in the cargo holds in wooden crates and proceed to labs where they are legally tortured during tests," the report further revealed. Because of that, Ian Somerhalder gave his reaction on the issue of using animals in scientific research.

The TVD star was not featured in the video but he decided to share it to make a point. The video showed a number of protesters instead with the messages "Boycott Delta and Air France" and "Air France Stop Shipping Primates To Their Death" written on their placards.

Ian's non-profit organization raises funds so that the abused animals can have a sanctuary. The caption on the Instagram video that the heartthrob actor shared reads: "Wow. This is a bummer... Do we really need to test on animals still? We can send missions to mars yet we still test on animals-guess what? It's NOT NECESSARY!!!! We know this like we know the earth is round... Primates should be in trees. Not in labs."

In the meantime, fans can catch Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore in the CW TV series "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 that resumes airing on Thursday night, April 17, with Episode 18 titled "Resident Evil" at 8 pm ET on the CW Network.
