Ian Somerhalder: 'Vampire Diaries' Actor Not Thrilled with ‘The Originals’ Spin-Off, Explains Why
Actor Ian Somerhalder, who has contributed to the success of "The Vampire Diaries" as one of the main characters, recently admitted that he is not really thrilled with the upcoming spin-off of the CW TV series called "The Originals." In an interview with Digital Spy, Mr Somerhalder explained his concern that the spin-off could snatch the good actors from the hit CW TV drama series.

"I'm excited for Julie [Plec], and for Joseph and all my people, but I'm a selfish actor - I'm not a producer on the show, I'm not a writer. My only concern is Damon, and my show," the 34-year-old heartthrob actor revealed to Digital Spy.
"Now, they're going to be taking these characters that mean so much to our show. I'm insanely happy for everyone, but I'm not thrilled. Not that I mind sharing, I just don't want to lose all these amazing actors on our show," Ian further added.
"The Originals" is set to debut in October, and the storyline will be focusing on the Mikaelson siblings Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah whom actors Joseph Morgan, Claire Holt and Daniel Gillies will be portraying, respectively. According to Ian, the spin-off may cause the TVD casting team to add new cast members and introduce new characters in the show to fill in the absence of the three characters.
"Who are the other people who are gonna be coming on the show? Are they gonna be good? Because it's The CW, and everyone has to be pretty, and there aren't a lot of pretty people that can act well," Ian explained.
Additionally, Ian expressed about his seriousness about this issue. "I'm not joking! I'm one of them, that can act well. Not to sound s**tty about it, but casting is always tough. I feel like they worked so hard on casting this show... and hopefully they just continue to put great actors in," the actor further stated.
"The Originals" premiere schedule on the CW Television Network will be after "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 on Thursday, October 3. Then, the showing schedule will shift to Tuesday nights starting October 8.
