"Vampire Diaries" actor Ian Somerhalder is known for his environmental and animal rights advocacy and the news about an obsessed One Direction teenage fan threatening to kill her dog if the boy band group does not follow her back on Twitter reached the 34-year-old heartthrob actor. Mr Somerhalder gave a reaction with a couple of warning messages to the fans about the animal cruelty on his Twitter account.
Ian Somerhalder expressed his opinion on the issue after sharing a Ryot.org link to the unfair animal abuse. The actor posted on his Twitter account @iansomerhalder: "Pls DO NOT do this-NOT FAIR to this animal-You must know that its nearly impossible to see follow requests from fans http://www.ryot.org/crazed-one-direction-fan-claims-to-have-killed-her-dog-over-unanswered-tweet/368857."
Mr Somerhalder further shared a message to the fans that reads: "Celeb won't follow them. Its a HUGE world out there you amazing young ones. Explore it, love it, love the creatures in it-have a great weekend."
In the Ryot.org report, the breaking news Web site posted as well a message of appeal to the One Direction fans. The Ryot note reads: "No matter how badly you want 1D to follow you on Twitter, violence is never the answer, especially towards helpless animals. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than 3 million members and supporters. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns to raise awareness for cruelty towards animals."
A teenage girl fan of One Direction took her obsession with the English-Iris pop boy band to a menacing and violent level. The crazed fan initially threatened to kill her dog if One Direction ignores her tweets and does not follow her back on social networking site Twitter.
"Follow me or I'll break my dog's neck," the fan posted on her Twitter account @illumivato tagging the five members of One Direction with an attached image of the dog with a hand around its throat. The girl identified as "Sally" further posted the message "I love you. Follow me. My dog has just died" when her request got denied.
It appears that the threat to her pet dog was not the first odd behavior that the crazed One Direction teenage fan displayed. She has shared other disturbing images in the past that includes a cat placed in a blender and choking her mother.
The images were shared with the alarming caption message that reads "If you don't follow me by Friday I will kill my mom" and "FOLLOW ME OR I'LL BLEND MY CAT." Other One Direction fans have labeled the teenage girl a "psycho" and even filed petition on Change.org demanding that she must be put in jail for her cruel actions.
