Ian Somerhalder, star of "Vampire Diaries,' proudly shared a cute video of the new girl in his life. After splitting up with costar Nina Dobrev in May 2013, he has been busy spending time with this special girl whom he describes as "smart, so beautiful and charming--all a man could ask for in a girl."

But, before the ladies out there panic, let's get things straight. The new girl in his life is a dog that he adopted, which he named Nietzsche Panola Somerhalder.

Nietzsche, a Labrador mix, was rescued by Ian from traffic near the Vampire Diaries stages on Aug. 20, 2013.

As an animal rights and animal welfare activist, Ian supports the Spay/Neuter campaign for companion animals. He believes that this is an excellent way to control overpopulation of animals, especially cats and dogs. This in turn helps prevent abandoned, unwanted, homeless and abused animals.

That is why as soon as he got Nietzsche, he scheduled for the dog to be spayed in a veterinary hospital. However, it looks like that plan went awry because he soon revealed that Nietzsche was expecting and true enough, gave birth last Oct. 9, 2013.

It's a good thing Ian has lots of friends that wanted to adopt the cute puppies, including close friend Jessica Ramsay or Jram, who Ian refers to as Nietzsche's "aunt." It's funny how Ian treats Nietzsche as a daughter, even referring to the puppies as "his grandchildren."

In fact, he seems to be reveling in his role as "father," to Nietzsche and "grandfather," to the puppies. He loves to post updates about them in his official Twitter account.

The latest one is a video of Nietzsche drinking milk from a bottle while the puppies are feeding.

Ian couldn't help but share this cute video so he uploaded it on telly.com and then posted its link on Twitter.

Ian, who founded his own foundation called The Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF), is dedicated to saving the lives of animals, protecting the planet's resources, preventing cruelty and teaching compassion.

In fact, he even launched his Birthday Project which asks for donations of $35 to ISF instead of receiving gifts and cards from fans and loved ones. That way, he helps to raise funds to build the animal sanctuary that he plans to use to rescue and rehabilitate abused animals and bullied kids.

Ian is truly an inspiration. He uses his popularity and social media for a good cause -- to help make the world a better place to live in for both animals and humans.
