Ian Watkins of the Welsh rock band Lostprophets has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for committing child sex offences. 36-year-old Watkins reportedly pleaded guilty to 13 counts of child abuse at the Cardiff Crown Court in Wales in Nov. 2013. A spokeswoman at the Cardiff court said that he also pleaded guilty to six counts of taking and possessing indecent images of children and the possession of extreme pornographic images.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Reuters has reported that the Wales police is also coordinating with the U.S. Department for Homeland Security, German police officers and the international police organization Interpol to determine whether or not Watkins committed his sex crimes in U.S. and Germany. In fact, British detectives investigating Watkins' case are already in the said countries because they suspect sexual crimes were also done there due to Lostprophets' tours in those places.

Judge John Royce was the one who sentenced Watkins to his jail time. Before sentencing Watkins, Judge Royce briefly spoke to the accused.

"You are a deeply corrupting influence, you are highly manipulative, you are a sexual predator," said Judge Royce in the Sydney Morning Herald report.

"The public and in particular young females and children need protection from you," added Judge Royce.

Senior investigating officer for South Wales Police, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Doyle also commented on Watkins' case and their investigation of it.

"The investigation uncovered the most disturbing child abuse evidence I have seen in my 28 years as a police officer," said Doyle in one of the statements released by South Wales Police in relation to Ian Watkins' case.

Watkins' bandmates have said that they are "heartbroken, angry and disgusted" upon learning that Watkins, their lead singer, had indeed abused several children. Watkins founded the Lostprophets with bassist and guitarist Mike Lewis, drummer Mike Chiplin and guitarist Lee Gaze in 1997. Lostprophets broke up after Watkins was charged for his sexual crimes.

Aside from Watkins, two mothers of the children he abused also pleaded guilty to child abuse charges. They reportedly abused their children when Watkins asked them to do so. And, they made their children available to Watkins whenever he wanted to have sex with them. They were sentenced to 14 and 17 years of jail time.

Ian Watkins of Lostprophets was sentenced to 35 years in prison for child sex offences he committed including the sexual assault of a child who was under 13 years old, aiding, abetting and conspiring to the assault of children under 13 years old, two attempted rapes and conspiring to rape a child under 13 years old.
