If Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bolts, Freddie Roach Prefers Danny Garcia Over Amir Khan For Manny Pacquiao
Freddie Roach’s Plan B for Manny Pacquiao is picking Danny Garcia over Amir Khan if the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t push through in 2015. The world renowned trainer, who has handled Pacquiao’s preparations for years now, is stating that he’s leaning towards a bout with Garcia rather than Khan because he’s a better match-up with the Filipino stylistically.
“I do hear [Khan's] name and so forth. They have boxed in the gym before. Khan does well early and Manny does well late. It's a very interesting fight, but the thing is I think there are a couple of better opponents out there,” Roach shared via boxingscene.com. “I like Danny Garcia because he's a game guy, he comes to fight, he's a good puncher, he can knock you out with one punch, he's dangerous - I think that's a better fight. Amir Khan is just fast and I think he would run from Manny a little bit too much and it would be boring.”

Roach’s contention is simple in that “style make fights” in boxing parlance; Garcia (29-0-0, 17 KOs) is a go-go fighter who isn’t afraid to slug it out on top of the ring, a similar trait of Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs), who is also known as a willing customer in exchanging gloves furiously and consistently in his career. With Roach’s recent pronouncement, he’s saying that Khan won’t be offering the same kind of action and that could short-change fans who will demand for an exciting fight.
The 26-year-old Garcia, who is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., is undefeated in 29 bouts since turning pro in 2007. Among his victims who are are well known are Eric Morales— twice in 2012, the first via unanimous decision and the other via knockout; Khan in 2012 via a fourth round TKO; Zab Judah in 2013 via 12-round unanimous decision; and Lucas Martin Matthysse in 2013 via another via 12-round unanimous decision.
In related news, Khan seems to be doubtful that Mayweather will agree to fight him and the British boxer has called out Pacquiao recently and that they create the super fight in 2015. Khan and Pacquiao both trained under Roach in previous years.
“If Floyd Mayweather doesn’t want to fight me this year, Pacquiao and I could fight – we could get it on in the USA, in the UK, in Dubai, or even Macau, where he fights once a year,” Khan said via The Telegraph. “Many experts think Mayweather is scared of me. Let's see. The main fight I want is the Mayweather one, but I'm not going to let the waiting get to me.”

As per boxing observes, fight fans and even Roach himself, the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight is still the best option not only for the fighters but for the sport of boxing. Pay-Per-View (PPV) sales have seen a downtrend in 2014 but that could change immediately when the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao is finalised. However, there are other interesting pairings in the division and one of then is the Manny Pacquiao vs. Danny Garcia fight according to Roach— bad news for Khan who wants his own huge money fight in 2015.
