‘If I Will Have to Propel Myself, I Will’ - Rafael Nadal on Defending US Open Title
Two weeks before the official opening of the 2014 U.S. Open, Rafael Nadal, the world no. 2 will announce whether he will or not be allowed and well enough to defend his title on August 25.
The 28-year-old tennis superstar already missed two tournaments to defend his title because of a wrist injury that he acquired from practice. He missed to defend his title in the Western & Southern Open and in the 2014 Rogers Cup already and he might miss the U.S. Open again.
According to the Spaniard, he will go to Barcelona, Spain with his doctor Ruiz-Cotorro, and he will be updated about the prognosis of his recently acquired wrist injury that led him to withdraw at the 2014 Rogers Cup. Doctor Ruiz-Cotorro's team will update the world no. 2 if his condition improved or he needs more time to recuperate. At this time, all he can do is train and practice as much as he can.
The U.S Open is fast approaching and the 2014 tickets were already released. Fans are already rushing to claim tickets for the fourth and last Grand Slam tournament of the year. Two weeks from now, all best players tennis players will all try to defend and get the championship title in front of more than 700, 000 fans at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre.
"I will propel myself if I will have to. If I will have to cut the healing time short I will," said Rafael Nadal according to the Tennis World USA report. However, that still depends on how the injured wrist will hurt after he takes off his bandage and starts using it. One thing is for sure, once a muscle is injured and not trained for quite some time, it takes a while before it gets back to normal.
Every year since 2003, the title had been won by the 'Big Four' - Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, except in 2009 when Juan Martin del Potro bagged the US Open title.
