Iggy Azalea Defeats Eminem at American Music Awards Twice, Reveals Plans to Move to US
Iggy Azalea beat Eminem twice at the American Music Awards on Sunday night. However, she had the courtesy to mention him while receiving her awards even though he had recently threatened to rape her.
The Australian singer received two major awards at the Los Angeles ceremony. She won it in the Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Album category and in the Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist category as well. While accepting the Favourite Album award, she said that competing against Eminem and winning it meant a lot to her. She also mentioned Drake for the same reason. Iggy's debut studio album "The New Classic" beat Industry veterans like Eminem and Drake to become the champion this year.
She called her feelings as "amazing" while receiving the award. Daily Mail reported that there was a quiver in her voice when she said that winning the award for Best Hip Hop meant so much for her that she could be inspired to move to the United States and pursue her dreams. Hip Hop helped her when she was a teenager to escape and get through her life and to better times she said. Iggy also thanked T.I. who was there with her on stage and her fans. She thanked T.I. for having faith in her.
Iggy said that this was the first award she had ever won in her entire life. This turns out to be an interesting comment as she has already won several awards at the Teen Choice Awards, Billboard Mid-Year Awards, Europe Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. Another significant part of the comment was that Iggy was speaking in a heavy American accent. Iggy's emotional speech in a U.S. accent and her desires to move to the U.S. for her career might have sparked speculations about her settling in the U.S. soon after this.
Eminem earlier mentioned Iggy in the teaser of his upcoming album "Vegas" that he would rape her. "Put that shit away, Iggy. You don't wanna blow that rape whistle on me," Eminem said. Iggy called Eminem an "old guy" and said that she was bored with such men who would threaten young women as a part of their entertainment.
