The next-generation iMac will have the popular Retina Display feature that recent Apple devices have, if reports are to be believed. The target date for the iMac with Retina display is set to be around October, 2012.

The rumor about the Retina display feature in iMac came from DigiTimes which cited "upstream supply chain sources" as the source of information for this news report. According to the source, the iMac with Retina display is now entering the production stage in order to have a possible October release date. Apple is said to be incorporating the Retina display feature to all Apple products and there is a high chance of iMac having this type of feature.
One problem with this feature is price because of the high cost of incorporating Retina display to Apple devices. If compared to other "Full HD" feature of other devices, Retina display is definitely more expensive. Despite that, Apple is said to be focused on this goal with the "hopes of surpassing its competitors in terms of screen resolution".

This is contrast with the report published by The New York Times wherein an Apple executive has said to reveal a posible update for iMac models. Tim Cool, the Chief Executive for Apple, only disclosed that the company is planning a "new, really great model" for iMac sometime soon. The update for these iMac models are expected to be released by next year as opposed to the rumored release of iMac by October, this year.

Apple's iMac is considered as the most popular all-in-one computer globally. The last update for the iMac line was last May, 2011 with Sandy Bridge processors and high-speed Thunderbolt ports. It is available in 21.5-inch 27-models. Recent figures show that iMac has sold 1.22 million units for the first quarter of 2012.
