Impending Doom For Galaxy Note and Other Samsung Devices: May Be Banned in The US
NVIDIA Launched Patent Suit Against Samsung ITC to Investigate
Earlier last month NVIDIA had filed a law suit against the Korean tech giant Samsung and Qualcomm for patent violation. According to Re/Code, the International Trade Commission in the U.S. has voted in favour of investigating the case against Samsung. This would be a deciding factor as many of the Samsung devices could be banned from sales in the U.S.
According to NVIDIA the allegations against Samsung are that its own Exynos processors and Qualcomm's CPUs that include the Snapdragon S4, 400, 600, 800, 801 and 805 are in violations of certain Graphic Processing Unit.
In relation to this, NVIDIA has asked the International Trade Commission to ban a number of Samsung devices that include the ones that were launched recently like the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note and also the older handsets like the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5,Galaxy Tab S, Galaxy Note Pro and Galaxy Tab 2.
David Shannon, the Executive President and Chief Administrative Officer at NVIDIA said that the company is pleased with the International Trade Commission's decision today to open an investigation and the NVIDIA is looking forward to presenting its case on how NVIDIA GPU patents are being used without licence.
Samsung has been investigated by the ITC several times regarding patent related claims in the past. Samsung was banned from selling their devices in the U.S. in early August last year. This was because Apple had filed a law suit against the company and won the case. However, the ban was on older devices manufactured by Samsung. NVIDIA is targeting Samsung devices that include smartphones and tablets that were launched in 2013 and 2014.
If the case is not in favour of the Korean tech giant it could affect sales. The recently launched Samsung devices the Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge are still to hit the market in the U.S. North America could expect the Note Edge in stores on October 17.
