‘Independence Day 2’ Release Date Changed – Things To Know From The First Movie
The release date of the movie "Independence Day 2" has been moved up from July 1 to June 24, 2016. The plot details of the movie are still unknown and the casting for the movie is still ongoing. The director of the movie, Roland Emmerich, has worked on recent hits like "2012" and "The Day After Tomorrow."
One of the confirmed cast members in "Independence Day 2" is Bill Pullman, who will be reprising his role as President Thomas J. Whitmore. He will be playing the role after nearly two decades. The first movie from the franchise was released in 1996.
Whitmore played a very important role in taking out the aliens in the 1996 movie. He not only organized a worldwide counter attack on the aliens but also piloted a fighter aircraft to personally take charge of the attack.
The counter attack was made possible in the movie because of a virus developed by the character David Levinson, played by Jeff Goldblum. David and Captain Steven, played by Will Smith, traveled to the alien mother ship to plant a virus as well as a nuclear bomb in the movie.
Jeff Goldblum is the other cast member who may feature in "Independence day 2." According to a report by Screenrant, the director is keen on bringing the character of David Levinson back to the screens. The script at the time was not ready yet but there is still no confirmation that Jeff Goldblum has agreed to star in the upcoming movie.
The report also notes that a 2016 release date of the movie will mark the 20 year anniversary of the release of the first film. The writers of the upcoming movie are Carter Blanchard, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich.
With the alien invasion fleet decimated in the first movie the sequel may focus on re-building of life on earth. If the time period in the upcoming movie is several years after the 1996 movie, readers may expect another conflict with the aliens.
Given the phenomenal success of the 1996 movie at the box office, expectations are high on "Independence Day 2." Readers should note that the first movie was also directed by Roland Emmerich. Will he be able to recreate the same success with the new movie? Please leave your comments below.
