Indians Do Not Have Enough Sex: The Telegraph
A recent survey by The Telegraph shows that Indian men are the least likely to have sex in a week.
The magazine conducted the survey between April 2013 and August 2013 among over 50,000 people from over 30 countries. The purpose behind the survey was to find out a comparative study on sexual practices and attitudes. The survey reveals that Indian men are typically likely to have sex less than once a week. On the other hand, they are also likely to have fewer partners in their life.
The survey shows that Indian men, on an average, have only 3 sexual partners during their lifetime, while the women of India have just a couple. The Australian, the American and the British women, who share the top position on the table among one another, are likely to have 9 sexual partners in their lifetime.
Bobby Varkey from Men's Health states that several Indians lack the privacy to have frequent sex as they live in joint families which consist of adult siblings and their parents. Another reason behind the lack of sex among Indians may be the puritan attitude regarding sex outside marriage.
There have been recent incidents of sexual assaults on women, which have frequented the Indian media. Mr Varkey believes that the sexual frustration among the Indian men may be one of the reasons behind the tragic incidents which pose a threat to society. He, however, feels that the amount of frustration is less now than what it was in recent times.
Indians seem to have a strange dichotomy of attitude in terms of sex. While they appear to be extremely orthodox on modesty and chastity, Indian women are 6 times more likely to make out in the back of a hired taxi than women in the U.S., according to the survey. It also says that 77 per cent of women in India want their men shaving their pubic hair while only 32 per cent men end up doing so.
On the contrary, Dr Ranjana Kumari challenged the findings in the survey. She believes that it is unfair to perceive that India has a frustrated culture of sex. Sexual assaults are not caused by sexual frustration but by the attitude in men that women must be controlled by them, she says.
