Intel (INTC) To Release Monster Chip Skylake, Haswell Processors Outdated Already?
Intel's (INTC) Haswell chips have changed the standards for portable computing. They offered incredible improvements, especially in speed and battery efficiency of laptops. The processors doubled their peak floating point throughout but Intel has a knack for bringing for surprising the industry. Their latest Skylake offering is a monster than will blow up standards once more.
Intel announced it will be releasing their Skylake 1H in 2015. While the chip industry may seem have to have seen the best from the company's line of processors, they have not seen anything yet until they come across Skylake. From what analysts report, the Skylake will be the new definition of performance - it is a monster in the making.
How are chips measured for their performance? It is often based on what they can process or do per watt. There are several ways a chip processor can perform better: based on their clockspeed, the number of instructions per clock and excellent parallelism. If a chip maker can enhance both of these aspects then their chips can power up some of the best mobile and computing devices - Intel is doing just that.
A processor's clockspeed or the clock rate tells the number of cycles a chip goes through per second. Technically, the higher the clockspeed of a processor, the more work a user can do per second. When it comes to instructions per clock, a processor takes varying times to execute work depending on the instructions. If the instructions are more complex then it will take longer for the chip to complete them.
It is often difficult for processors to execute a number of instructions altogether because of power consumption. Haswell changed that when it allowed computing devices to do more without exhausting their energy. Intel is saying this time that they can provide better computing performance and for a lower consumption rate with Skylake - that is how it is going to outdate the now esteemed Haswell processors.
Parallelism is one of the best ways to check if a processor is good or not. It is also one of the most ideal ways for companies to improve their chip performance. This literally means adding more cores so a computing device can perform more. That is why there are products with quad or double quadcores. Intel is working on a chip that does not need additional cores but can perform better and consumer lesser energy.
Skylake can be a monster in the making.
