International Emmy Awards: Britain's Sean Bean and Brazil's Fernanda Montenegro Take Home Best Actors Award
Britain's Sean Bean and Brazil's Fernanda Montenegro sizzled at the 41st International Emmy Awards on Monday night in New York. Bean took home the Best Actor award for his role in "Accused" where he played a cross-dresser accused of murder in the Brit crime drama. Montenegro won the best actress for her role in "Doce de Mae" ("Sweet Mother") where she portrays the character of an octogenarian woman who wishes to live her life and learn dance at that age.
The honorary International Emmy Founders Award was given to writer-director-producer J.J. Abrams, who took a break from pre-production work on the new "Star Wars." Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the latest "Star Trek" film, presented the award to Abrams and it was the highlight of the International Emmys.
Coming to countries, Britain bagged three International Emmys at the ceremony while Brazil and France had two awards each. Australia, South Korea and Germany also took home one award each at the star studded ceremony which took place at the Hilton New York and was hosted by British comedian John Oliver.
Britain's "Moone Boy," a documentary about a young Irish boy who talks to this imaginary friend and survives in his tough like, won in the comedy category. The British documentary "Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender," tied for the arts programming award with South Korea's "Hello?! Orchestra."
The Emmy for best drama series was bagged by France's "Les Revenants" ("The Returned"), which weaves a story about the lives of people from small village where several people rise from dead.
"5 Broken Cameras," the French documentary co-directed by Palestinian Emad Burnat and Israeli Guy Davidi, won the Best Documentary Award while the award for non-scripted entertainment went to Australia's "Go Back To Where You Came From - Series 2."
The awards, presented by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, honour people and programs who have proved their mettle in television programming outside the U.S. More than 36 nominees from 19 countries were competing in nine categories at the 41st International Emmy award ceremony.
