International movie ticket sales plummet following quake and tsunami in Japan
With the drop of foreign ticket sales, the studio companies and film producers have laid out strategies to combat any more plummeting of the movie industry.
Analysts have revealed that the devastating twin quake and tsunami disasters in Japan have made a great impact also in the movie industry.
According to Stamdard & Poor’s Equity Research, the foreign box office sales have nosed-dive of a significant percentage after the tragedy that has also pinned down the East Asian country last week.
Citing Tuna Amobi, the analyst for Standard & Poor’s Equity Research group, the Associated Press noted that an estimated 60-percent of earnings during the same period last year have been recorded.
Amobi said, noted AP that Japan is one of the biggest markets for Hollywood movies and therefore the devastating earthquake has put a big dent on the international movie ticket sales over the weekend. The analyst emphasized however, that there could be other factors contributing to the dramatic decline of ticket revenue.

Warner Entertainment Japan, Inc said AP has no plans on showing “Hereafter” after it was stopped shortly after the quake. The Clint Eastwood film, starring Matt Damon has scenes illustrating the 2004 tsunami in Indian Ocean.
Sony Pictures for its part, has delayed the release of techno-thriller, “Battle: Los Angeles”, starring Michelle Rodriguez in hopes to attract more audience when it hit the market.
