Evasi0n, the first untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5, is finally available to the public. It can be used to jailbreak iOS 6.1 devices.

To date, Cydia has already been installed 1.7 million times, according to MacRumors. The Cydia appstore administrator Jay Freeman said that Cydia has received peak demand, with 1,200 downloads per minute.

If you are an OS X, Windows, or Linux user, you can download the program in the official evasi0n website. But first, here's why evasi0n has been making headlines and downloads record since its release.

Jailbreaking made easy

Cult of Mac gives four easy steps in using the Evasi0n jailbreak. Remember, the evasi0n program is an untethered jailbreak program, so you don't have to worry about re-hailbreaking your device each time a reboot happens,

Before starting the jailbreak process, evasi0n has noted down four important things to remember. Backup passwords in iTunes must be disabled as it will be backed up, so this process must not be skipped at all costs.

Lock passcode of the iOS device should also be disabled. Users should also avoid doing anything with the device until the jailbreak is complete.

Users should also remember that restarting the program at any time of the process, rebooting, or rerunning the entire jailbreak method is completely safe.

Step 1: Download the evasi0n program to your desktop, open it, and connect your computer to your iOS device.

Step 2: Once evasi0n recognizes your iPhone 5, click the jailbreak button.

Step 3: Let the program do the job. Unlock your device when the command comes up, and you'll see that Jailbreak icon is already on your homescreen.

Step 4: After evasi0n installs the jailbreak, you should then reboot the device. Check for potential kinks and bugs in your device. Otherwise, you're free to use it.

How it works: Into Evasi0n

In an interview with Forbes, Evad3r developer David Wang says that the program needed to deal with five distinct bugs in the iOS code.

Basically, Evasi0n runs a program, the libimobiledevice in order to substitute some of Apple's program, so that it will communicate with the iOS devices instead. This gives the bug access to settings that should normally have restricted access.

The program also makes use of a symbolic link, so that it will communicate with Launch Daemon, a program which essentially tricks potential backup runs by the device.

Evasi0n has also come up with a program to override the restriction that is makes use of a unique signature from Apple. What the program does instead is it summons up the Launch Demon, and changes the settings to make the root file system now writable.

Fixing the kinks and bugs

Since its release online, the evasi0n iOS 6.1 jailbreak program has already been run in devices, most of which resulting in satisfied customers. Most of the users are operating devices include the iPhone 5 and the iPad 4, but evasi0n also works as a jailbreak tool for devices backed with iOS 6.1

However, there are some who have reported issues with the program, which include malfunctioning weather apps and longer than necessary reboot time, reports Gotta Be Mobile.

The developers, also known as the evad3rs, are currently at it to fix the bug, an update that will appear in Cydia. If you are an evasi0n app user, the update will immediately notify you once the fix is live.
