Tech giant Apple will reportedly trim down the production of economic-friendly iPhone 5S to bolster the manufacturing of more high-end iPhone 5S in an attempt to catch up with demand, the NPD Display Search cited on Friday.

It has been widely speculated these past few days that Apple will indeed cut the production of the cheaper iPhone units to jack up the units of their sophisticated iPhone 5S model.

Tech site CNET provided a nice description between the stylish iPhone 5C and the high-end iPhone 5S.

"To recap, the iPhone 5C is basically last year's iPhone 5, but with a colorful plastic back and slightly different cellular antennas. The iPhone 5S is the company's new top-of-the-line iPhone, with a 64-bit processor, new camera, and dual-LED flash, along with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the home button."

iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S were both made available by Apple in the market last month, a move that contributed to record-shattering weekend sales. However, unlike iPhone 5C units, customers found out iPhone 5S units are a lot harder to come by with new buyers required to wait for several weeks for the models to be available on Apple's online store with carrier partners, according to CNET.

Based on figures, NPD believed Apple made a wrong decision to launch their iPhone 5C units in China when many buyers were anticipating big discounts from local carriers in the country.

"If Chinese carriers allocated a higher subsidy to new iPhone 5C subscribers, they would have less to subsidize other brands' devices," NPD analysts Tina Teng and Shawn Lee wrote. "Perhaps Apple miscalculated the launch timing, considering they were aiming at the China market."

Additional NDP reports showed that Apple was lessening the production of the 5C in half, according to Chinese Tech Website. On the other hand, Wall Street reported, citing industry insiders, that Apple was cutting production of 5C orders with two of its suppliers by roughly 2/3.

"NPD's report follows two others that had similar findings. A report from Chinese Web site C Technology last week claimed Apple was cutting the production of the 5C in half. A few days later, The Wall Street Journal -- citing sources -- said Apple was trimming 5C orders with two of its suppliers by as much as a third," as reported by CNET reporter Josh Lowensohn.
