The battle between Android and iOS continues and what's a better head-on challenge than two flagship devices that symbolize the supremacy of each side: the iPhone 5S and the Nexus 5? The devices have a massive price gap as iPhone 5S starts at $649 while the Nexus 5 starts at $349. The iPhone 5S exudes class while the Nexus 5 prides itself on being a performer. But which device really works better?

Apple devices have always been strong on design. Like its predecessor, the iPhone 5S is a mix of glass and metal, just 7.6 mm thick and weighs only 112 g. While the Nexus 5 is definitely not an eyesore, it seems a little more run of the mill with the plastic back, unlike the Nexus 4 that came with a classy glass back. It is think at 8.5 mm and not heavy at 130 g. It doesn't look bad at all but it doesn't have the appeal of the iPhone 5S that turns heads everywhere. Both devices however are solidly built but the iPhone 5S is more compact than the longer Nexus 5.

Both the iPhone 5S and the Nexus 5 are packed with very good hardware. The Nexus 5 comes with a 2.26 GhZ Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad processor and a full HD 4.95 inch display. The iPhone 5S comes with a 4 inch retina display and an A7 chip with 64-bit processing architecture.

Both handsets have sensors and connectivity options - the Nexus 5 wins with the NFC but the iPhone 5S compensates with a fingerprint scanner security and a motion-based chip. The iPhone 5S camera beats the Nexus 5 with its 8 MP shooter, while the latter has a mediocre one. Both devices don't have expandable memory.

Apple iOS devices are very intuitive and user friendly with just a home button and very few menus. Though the iOS 7 got a little complicated, the iPhone 5S continues with this trend. All apps are a button and scroll away and muti-tasking has improved remarkably with no unnecessary themes. The Nexus 5 remains a geek device with Android 4.4 KitKat that improves previous versions with easy icons and flexible customisation and appearance.

Though iOS and Android run close with regard to app treasury, iPhone 5S seems to have a clear edge with quality and security. There are just a lot of bookmarks disguised as apps and risky apps in Google Play and a lot more apps in iOS that try to make the most out of the device hardware.

With social networks, easy browsing and gaming, both iPhone 5S and Nexus 5 deliver excellent performance. iPhone 5S wins the multimedia category though, not to mention its longer battery life than the Nexus 5.
