iPhone 6 and LG Looking at Bendable Technology, Beats the Samsung Galaxy S4?
One of the biggest hypes of 2013 has been the flexible OLED displays for smartphones, which will allow you to twist and bend the displays, as they no longer need to be covered in glass. It's a durable solution for those whose first and foremost problem with their smartphones is the first fall that ruins it.
in the beginning, Samsung has been the rumored creator to deliver the first smartphone with flexible OLED display. Now, there are two contenders with potential smartphones and plans to race against each other for the honor of being the first.
Apple's iPhone 6: After the calm comes the surprise
It's unusual for Apple to remain this stagnant for this long, which is also why the possibility of a double whopper of the iPhone 5 improvement iPhone 5S and the iPhone 6 may come out with surprisingly top-notch features.
iDigital Times reports that the event with the most potential where Apple will make a major announcement would be at the WWDC 2013, which is the developers conference held annually by Apple.
This will be held from June 10 to 14, a good two months away from now, and yet rumors of the features that its latest iPhone models will have are starting to circulate.
One noticeable rumor is on the bendable screen technology. Now reports have popped up regarding Apple's current project with flexible screens.
In the report, iDigital Times states that Apple may now be experimenting with a polyimide substrate for AMOLED display, which can bend and be rolled up, but will go back to its true form as the material will "remember" the original shape.
This technology, coupled with another rumored addition of the iOS 7-said to be revolutionary in terms of how Apple's OS functions-to the iPhone 6, might just give Apple the push that it needs to once again take the lead in the smartphone business.
Officially, Apple has not yet announced any definitive plans but hopefully, the WWDC 2013 will clear up or confirm these speculations.
LG: Another bendable in the making?
There's also another contender in the bendable technology department that's even more ambitious, with plans of releasing a smartphone with flexible display by this year.
This brand is none other than LG, which is now aiming to get ahead of the game, according to Digital Trends.
LG's plans of mass-producing flexible displays dates as far back as mid-last year, wherein
"We will be able to release flexible OLED screens for smartphones sometime in the latter half of next year," said Han Sang-beom, LG Display's CEO to The Korea Times last year.
LG was able to deliver its promise on being the first to create a flexible e-paper display last year. Given how the company already has the technology to actually create the flexible screens, and with almost an entire year to work on improvements, there's hope for LG taking that grand spot.
And considering that we're still only at the second quarter of the year, LG still has a few more months to see if they can deliver as stated last year.
