iPhone 6 Plus: All Set To Fly With United Airlines’ Flight Attendants
The rollout of the iPhone 6 Plus targets to handle most onboard retail transactions and to provide easy access to united.com, which is the company's email. It will also include the company's Intranet plus its policies and procedures manual.
In addition, safety and service information will also be made available to United Airlines' flight attendants by using the iPhone 6 Plus. This is not the first time that the famous airline deployed top devices to its people in operations. According to Apple Insider, the airline has also provided iPads to its pilots in 2011 and has already renewed the project now with the more advanced iPad Air 2.
The iPhone 6 Plus will also provide flight attendants real-time updates on cabin issues and repairs. FA's will also have the ability to accept electronic payments whenever they sell food and beverages to customers using the device.
According to United Airlines' senior vice president for in-flight services Sam Risoli, the company is excited with the investment they are making for their flight attendants. He also added that the integration of the iPhone 6 Plus will help their attendants provide a better flyer-friendly service. Risoli also emphasized that the one-touch access to important flight information will also enable flight attendants to provide better service to customers.
Aside from the information packed in the devices, the rollout also targets a paperless working environment for both pilots and flight attendants. Delta Airlines has also provided Microsoft's Surface 2 tablets to its 11,000 pilots which looks into saving 1.2 million gallons of aviation fuel each year since the device only weighs 1.5 pounds as compared to a regular flight bag which weighs around 38 pounds, CNET reports.
United Airlines is also extending its services to customers with iOS devices by launching an update to its official app. The app that is currently available to iOS provides passengers with helpful in-flight video contents.
Meanwhile, even other airlines have also decided to plunge into the trend. Virgin Atlantic was also reported to be considering Google Glass and Apple's iBeacon technology at the Heathrow airport in London.
