iPhone 6 Plus And iPhone 6 Bending Issue: Causes And How To Repair Or Get A Replacement
"BendGate" is the term used for the bending of iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6. So far, there are nine users who confirmed suffering from this bending issue of the new iPhone devices.
iPhone 6 Plus Bending Cause And Effect
Nine customers of Apple reported the bending of iPhone 6 Plus, which is made of stainless steel and titanium. Normally, the materials used on iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 can withstand stress before any warping or bending occurs. But certain conditions must occur to put the iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6 beyond its threshold:
1. Accidental bending caused by keeping the device inside tight pockets.
2. Intentional bending by applying extreme pressure on the device.
3. Activities such as dancing, where the device is kept in an unsafe location like tight pockets, could warp it.
YouTube user Marques Brownlee posted a video showing the weaknesses of the iPhone 6 Plus, which should be considered when examining why it bends on certain amounts of pressure. Here are some of the user's points on the new iPhone device:
- Large and thin body, which exposes several stress points on the surface.
- No magnesium chassis unlike with other smartphones.
- Aluminium steel sheet bends under enough pressure.
Bending issues are not exclusive to the iPhone 6 Plus Marques Brownlee claims. iPhone 5s, Galaxy S4, Xperia Z1 and iPhone 5 have images of bending problems that are included in the video.
How To Resolve And Replace
It is important for users to know if the device can be reverted back to its original form without damaging it, or if any replacement is possible. Bloomberg reported that bending the iPhone 6 Plus back could restore its shape; however, it will not be at 100 percent original manufacturer shape-detailed.
If replacement is desired, the iPhone 6 Plus must pass a visual inspection to get a warranty. A chat conversation caught by TheNextWeb hinted out that bend enclosure of iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6 during normal use requires qualification for a replacement.
"That is 100 percent up to the Genius you speak with at the store. There is a test called a Visual Mechanical Inspection that the device will have to pass," chat from a screenshot posted by the site. If the device is within guidelines, the warranty will be applied; if not, the replacement would be charged.
