iPhone 6 Rumors: Apple to Change Screen Display Glass From Gorilla to Sapphire Crystal?
Apple is reportedly working on the enhancement of the upcoming iPhone 6 screen display glass for a remarkable crack-free and scratch-free feature. According to The News Tribe report, the technology giant may come to a decision of changing the smart phone's screen glass from Gorilla to Sapphire Crystal.
Drastic modifications have occurred in the glass technology for several electronic devices. One of the major screen glass developments is the Sapphire Crystal glass which could offer the iPhone users with a crack-free and scratch-free smart phone.
It is still unclear if Apple will approve the incorporation of the Sapphire Crystal glass for the upcoming iPhone 6. Sapphire Crystal glass currently has a higher price compared to the Gorilla glass. Apple could spend an additional production cost of $20 to a device with the use of the Sapphire Crystal glass.
Several manufacturers are reportedly experimenting on the Sapphire Crystal glass to make it thinner. As a result, the upcoming iPhone 6 screen display and thickness with the Sapphire Crystal glass could be trimmed down.
However, there is a possibility that Apple will still make use of the next-generation Gorilla glass that Corning will produce to defy screen scratches two times compared to the current Gorilla glass. Corning is the premier glass supplier for Apple's iDevices that manufactures the Gorilla glass which has been considered as the best screen glass for devices at one point.
Other iPhone 6 rumours that emerged include the Sharp IGZO (Indium Gallium Zince Oxide) screen and the Super HD screen. The IGZO technology will allow the screen display to utilise less power with its thinner design but details on the screen size or resolution has not yet been identified.
Apple usually releases their latest smart phone at a close date and price with their previous iPhone launches. Brian White, the Topeka Capital analyst, claimed that the next iPhone will arrive in May or June 2013. For the price, it is predicted that Apple will offer the next iPhone with 32GB storage capacity at a price of £529 (US$803) while the 64GB version costs £599 (US$909) and the 126GB version is worth £699 (US$1060).
