Jack Cooksey is officially the first owner of the Apple iPhone 6 in Australia by lining up all night on Thursday in Perth. However, when he was interviewed by the Today Show, his precious mark in Australian tech history was almost removed because the smartphone dropped to the floor as the nervous gadget owner struggled to open the box.

The crowd watching the interview screamed at the accident. Fortunately for Cooksey, the iPhone 6 has an ion-strengthened glass that it survived the fall, although it must have shattered his spirit for a few seconds.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which was sold simultaneously on Friday, in 10 countries, including Australia, sold 4 million units within 24 hours. In some stores in Australia, the queues were chaotic and buyers wanted to be the first to own the new Apple flagship that there were reports of scuffles as some consumers attempted to jump the line. At the Apple stores in Sydney, the queue was five blocks long.

If Cooksey's iPhone 6 drop was accidental, PhoneBuff deliberately dropped the two models thrice of its back, side and front. The back and side drops resulted in minimal damage, but the front drops resulted in shattered glass; however, the phones were still working.

Here's the full video of the experiment.
