The iPhone 6 is set for release in Q4 of 2014. According to speculations, Apple will likely expand its screen to enhance its Retina display technology. Reports swirling around the Internet are saying the iPhone 6 will have a screen size between 4.8 and 5.7 inches.

Apple doesn't want to lag behind the race toward curved smartphones while Samsung launched the Galaxy Round with curved display to test consumer feedback while LG Electronics has unveiled the Flex smartphone with its own curved display.

The iPhone 6 is believed to come with 3D gesture controls. Recently, Apple acquired PrimeSense, the company that developed Xbox One's Kinect technology for Microsoft. Apple can use the technology to include eye-tracking features to its next-gen smartphones and let owners use the device without having to touch it.

PrimeSense could also offer a plenoptic camera for the Apple iPhone 6. This technology allows the user to adjust the focal point after the photo has already been taken. The A8 octa-core processor can also be a new highlight to the iPhone 6. Today, the A7 quad core 64-bit processor has already gotten good reviews and Apple still plans to improve it.

The iPhone 6 is also expected to have an improved TouchID sensor and Siri, along with the new track pad and facial recognition technology, which identifies and reacts only to authorized faces. Apple is also expected to introduce a wireless charger that can have multiple devices at the same time. The iPhone 6 will likely have a 3.2 MP HD front camera and a 13 MP 3D rear.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is reported for release in Q1 of 2014. Media suggest that the Galaxy S5 will sport a 62-bit Exynos 6 processor with Samsung working to enhance its processor to compete with Apple's A7 chipset. Reports also claim that Samsung may also feature a TouchID similar to the iPhone 5S while it ditches the plastic body for an aluminum unibody case.

Other Galaxy S5 features include a curved display, 5-inch 2560x1440 AMOLED screen, 20 MP camera and the latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. It is also possible that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have a 64-bit processor like the iPhone 5 and with Galaxy S4's success, it may be an indication that the S5 is worth a look.
