Apple's brand new flagship iPhone 5S is the successor to the iPhone 5 but like its predecessor, the iPhone 5S will soon be replaced with something that would be better. The rumor mill hasn't stopped talking about the iPhone 6 set to be released 2014.

Fans have been questioning how the iPhone 6 will stack up against the iPhone 5S. While the questions are still very hard to answer given that the iPhone 6 rumors are still unconfirmed, history pieces can still be put together to figure out what to expect.

Apple distinctly follows patterns with regard to its smartphone lineup. While the iPhone 5S was joined by the iPhone 5C in 2013, the smartphone still remained with Apple's pattern of "S" iPhone launches. The company has added a couple of new features while retaining the iPhone 5's overall design.

Apple's iPhone S line has always been criticized and the iPhone 5S' new 8 MP camera, A7 processor, TouchID fingerprint reader, sleek design and retina display certainly resonated with what the consumers want. There are many consumers still on the fence, wondering how the iPhone 5S will compare to the iPhone 6 and help them in listing an early look at the rumored iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S.

One of the first questions typically asked about a new device is its release date. Fortunately, iPhone launches are a bit easier to predict because Apple tends to use only two launch Windows for its smartphone. Apple can either introduce the iPhone in the summer or fall, ahead of the holidays. This means once the iPhone 6 arrives, it may be dropped to free for $99 iPhone 6C and a $199.99 iPhone 6. The iPhone 5S, as the last of its kind, is not expected to be killed off immediately.

Meanwhile, Apple tends to stick to the design for two years like it did with the iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S to iPhone 5. Apple always changes things with the numbered iPhone. Apple might use a more durable material than the anodized aluminum that has shown signs of wear-and-tear.

While Android screens have gotten bigger over the years, Apple has made a modest change from 3.4-inches to 4-inches. It is speculated that the iPhone 6 will finally introduce a bigger screen, jumping to around 4.5 to 5-inch display. It is expected to have thinner bezels and taller than iPhone 5S. Enhanced and new features rumored are Siri and the TouchID, facial recognition, sensors and eye scanner technology. While the iPhone 5S has the iOS 7, it's safe to say the iPhone 6 will be running an upgraded iOS 8.
