iPhone 6 vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 3: The Idea Of An Apple Phablet
A battle between the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Apple iPhone 6 may sound weird. But rumours saying the iPhone 6 being a bigger, phablet-like iPhone may just make this comparison worth it. Afterall, the iPhone 6 is seen to be Apple's first handset to embrace a larger display. Rumors suggest that Apple is currently testing different sizes from 4.5 inches to 5.2 inches. It is also likely to see a dual launch like the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
According to the most recent batch of China reports, Apple will create a larger-screen smartphone in 2014 that may be called iPhone 6, although some already call it the iPhone Air in light of the new iPad Air. The market may see a standard variant to replace the iPhone 5S or a larger 6-6-inch handset as a phablet competitor.
Consistent with the rumors are talks about edge-to-edge displays with this bezels, cramming the touchscreen into a small chassis. This is now the trend among Apple rivals such as Samsung and Apple has already done it with iPad Air and iPad Mini.
There's a lot of reported news saying Apple may switch from the current IPS LCD setup. IGZO screen was the early prediction but Apple has just recently reported its interest in high-end OLED panels. Will Apple's pixel density of around 326 ppi mark remain or will it go for a larger 5-inch screen and go a full HD 1080p for clarity?
Apple currently uses Gorilla Glass which is still prone to breaking but it may expand to Sapphire Glass used for the Touch ID home key and camera port for the entire display, making the device ultra-tough. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED full HD 1080p resolution with 386ppi pixel density that offers fantastic sharpness, visual quality, color, brightness and contrast. It is thinner, better balanced and lighter with a slim bezel.
While Samsung offers 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB with MicroSD support for up to 64 GB, Apple still hasn't offered microSD but has the same internal storage variants. One big question over the iPhone 6 or iPhone Air phablet is if Apple will allow a 128 GB option. Connectivity is standardized with 4G LTE bands, full 3G with HSPA+, WiFi options, Bluetooth and GPS. Apple still uses its proprietary Lightning connector while Galaxy Note 3 uses MHL, microUSB, DLNA, NFC and infrared.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a 3,200 mAh removable cell that allows the user to hot-swap replacement if he wishes to. Apple has the ability to extend longer battery lifespan even if a smaller battery and combining optimization and a larger cell will make the iPhone 6 phablet very impressive.
Galaxy Note 3's camera boasts of a 13 MP back illuminated sensor (BSI), digital image stabilization, LED flash and a 1080p and 2160p (4K/Ultra HD) video recording. The iPhone 5S has an 8 MP iSight BSI configuration and an improved ability to adapt to shooting environment as part of its True Tone dual LED flash with amber and white LEDs feature.
Apple is likely to bump its sensor to 13 MP and reportedly working on a "Lytro" like 3D sensor for the iPhone 6. The Lytro technology allows the users to shoot an image and dynamically alter the focal point later on, even repeatedly if wished. While the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 enjoys the usual Android perks of Window applications and multitasking, the Apple iPhone 6 will run either iOS7 or iOS 8.
