"Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr. recently confirmed that there are no plans for a fourth movie. However, a report claims it could still happen if either War Machine or Pepper Potts suit up as the superhero.

According to Cinemablend's Eric Eisenberg, Marvel can take a shot at "Iron Man 4" if a different storyline would be considered. Two possible scenarios involving either War Machine or Pepper Pots taking over as "Iron Man" could reportedly fit into the movie franchise.

James 'Rhodey' Rhodes was first introduced in "Iron Man 2" as War Machine, played by Don Cheadle. The actor reprised his role in "Iron Man 3" and he will reportedly also make an appearance in Joss Whedon's "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Aside from being Tony Stark's closest friend, War Machine is a likely choice as the new Iron Man because of his skills in piloting a suit resembling that of Iron Man's armour.

Furthermore, Marvel claims the character had the opportunity of becoming the new Iron Man for the first time after Stark passed out from his fight with Magma. He eventually defeated Magma and saved Stark International. The original comic book source revealed War Machine was Iron Man for quite some time following Tony Stark's request for him to assume the superhero role.

An unlikely new Iron Man prospect -- but Eisenberg claims Pepper Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, can also take over Robert Downey Jr.'s role. This choice was especially based on the character's scene in "Iron Man 3" where she donned on Tony Stark's costume for the first time. Although she got to play superhero for a brief moment, her intuitive skills in piloting the suit reportedly hint she's already adept with the knowledge on how the armour works.

Additionally, Pepper Potts is a nod to a female character in the Marvel comics named Rescue. Potts assumed the identity when she discovered and wore Iron Man's "Mark 1616" armour.

Gwyneth Paltrow has been with the "Iron Man" movie series from the beginning. She basically can be considered as the face of the franchise according to Eisenberg.

However, as Robert Downey Jr. said during an interview, "there's no plan for a fourth Iron Man." So for now fans will have to wait for any confirmation from Marvel's end regarding "Iron Man 4."
