Australia ruled the world cricket for decades. With champion captains like Steve Waugh and Mark Tailor and with legendary cricketers like Mark Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, Australia built up a test team that truly was unbeatable. It was often compared to the West Indian test team in the 1970s which had phenomenal records as well. However, that is history.

None of the legendary players is a part of the team any more. Aussie captain Michael Clarke has a relatively inexperienced team which has suffered some massive reality check in the recent past. This year, 2013, has been a dismal year for Australian cricket. Even though the year started well with a 5-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at home, Australia lost 7 tests out of 9 it played and 2 of them ended in a draw. While it was a whitewash in India where Australia lost all 4 test matches convincingly, it also lost the Ashes in England to the home country 3-0.

When England came to Australia to play a 'back-to-back' series, it might not have expected the 'inexperienced' Australia to do much to upset them. England, by the way, won the last three Ashes series since 2009. Their confidence must have been sky high. However, Clarke's men had some other plans.

Australia won the first test in Brisbane for 381 runs. While the test suffered some uncalled-for controversies, Australia already made their first impression, and how! Shane Warne predicted that Adelaide might turn out to be England last chance to make a mark in the series as Australia would surely win the Perth test [Read Here]. On Monday, Dec 9, Australia took just an hour in the morning to send 4 English batsmen back to the pavilion and win the test for 218 runs.

This may be the Australian team the fans have been waiting for quite a while. If Warne's prediction turns out to be true and Australia manages to win the Perth test as well, Australia will definitely make a statement to its critics. Even former English captain Michael Vaughan thinks that this is going to be a 5-0 in Australia's favour.
