Italy Earthquake 2012: New Earthquake Hits Italy; Brings More Destruction
A new earthquake hits Italy which brought more destruction and death to the country. According to reports, 17 deaths were already accounted for due to this new earthquake.
The new earthquake was registered at around a magnitude of 5.8 in the Richter magnitude scale. The center was determined at the north part of Bologna which caused the fall of old buildings, new factories, and warehouses. Most of these infrastructures were already weakened due to a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the same place a few days ago. Most of the people who were killed during the earthquake were working in the factories when they met their demise. This made people question Italy about its building codes and construction in terms of meeting the standard quality for earthquakes.
Aside from the lives damaged due to the earthquake, this tragedy has also brought about millions of damage in infrastructure. According to Eqecat, a risk-modeling agency, insurers have to pay out a maximum amount of 700 million euros which is equivalent to US$880 million. The two earthquakes that hit Italy caused damage to commercial buildings, private houses, and historical sites.
