There's no Indonesia stopover for Lady Gaga this year.
Lady Gaga and her management have decided to cancel her concert in Indonesia's capital for security reasons. Religious fundamentalists have threatened to cause chaos if the controversial pop star pursues her concert. The decision of the artist and her management came after days of grueling process.
The Jakarta police authorities have canceled Lady Gaga's concert permit after the hardline group FPI (Islamic Defenders Front) have threatened to violently disrupt the show. They have reportedly secured 150 tickets they will use to enter the concert grounds. They called the international pop star a "devil worshipper" and a bad example who corrupts Indonesia's youth.
After negotiation with the local promoters, Big Daddy, the authorities appeared to relent and consider the promoters offer. But yesterday, the final decision came down hard for Lady Gaga and her fans. Big Daddy posted in Twitter that they were cancelling the concert with "a heavy heart." The group's chief executive Michael Rusli that the tickets would be refunded albeit it will take a long time.
"With deep regrets we have to say that the Lady Gaga concert that was scheduled to be held on June 3 could not be conducted," Big Daddy lawyer Minola Sebayang said. According to Jakarta Globe newspaper, it was the decision of Lady Gaga's management not to continue the show due to security reasons.
"It is not only Lady Gaga's security, but also the team and the audience," Sebayang said. "She was really concerned about this and she doesn't want any of the audience to get hurt."
"We have to respect Lady Gaga's decision," he added.
Lady Gaga is on her Born This Way Ball tour in Asia to promote her latest album and carrier single. Before the cancellation, Lady Gaga is set to perform before a soldout 50,000-seater stadium. Lady Gaga has been to Korea and Philippines and will perform soon on Singapore and Bangkok before finishing her stop in Australia.
